Are Nano TiO2 Inclusions Improving Biocompatibility of Photocurable Polydimethylsiloxane for Maxillofacial Prosthesis Manufacturing?

(1) Background: The development of a biocompatible material for direct additive manufacturing maxillofacial extraoral prosthesis is still challenging task. aim the present study was to obtain photocurable PDMS, with nano TiO2 inclusions, directly 3D printing extraoral, prosthesis. biocompatibility newly obtained nanocomposite also investigated; (2) Methods: 2.5% (m/m) titania nanoparticles (TiO2) oxide anatase and photoinitiator, benzophenone (BF) 4.5% were added commercially available PDMS soft prostheses manufacturing. three different samples (PDMS, PDMS-BF PDMS-BF-TiO2) assessed by dielectric curing analysis (DEA) based on their viscosities times. In vitro micronucleus test (MNvit) performed genotoxicity assessment concentrations each compounds (2 mg/L, 4 mg/L 8 mg/L) tested in duplicate compared control; (3) Results: PDMS-BP-TiO2 fully reticulated within few minutes under UV radiation, according analysis. PDMS-BF-TiO2 showed lowest degree cyto- genotoxicity; (4) Conclusions: limits study, proposed ex situ preparation offers an easy, simple, promising technique that could be successfully used medical applications.
